TEXARKANA, Texas – The Texas A&M University-Texarkana women's soccer team hosted the Jaguars from the newest addition to the A&M System, Texas A&M University–Victoria. The matchup proved to be evenly contested, as the Eagles and Jaguars battled to a 1-1 draw after 90 minutes of play.
The first half was a back-and-forth affair, with both teams recording eight shots apiece. Despite several close chances, strong performances from both goalkeepers kept the scoreboard even heading into halftime.
A&M–Victoria struck first in the 53rd minute, capitalizing on a defensive miscue by the Eagles to take a 1-0 lead. TAMUT responded in the 72nd minute when Lillian Miller netted the equalizer off an assist from Desiree Narvaez. Both sides continued to press for the winner, but the score remained level at 1-1 when the final whistle sounded.
The Eagles outshot the Jaguars 22-11 on the day. A&M–Victoria goalkeeper Jamie Noriega tallied an impressive 15 saves, while Layla Anaya recorded 5 saves in goal for the Eagles.
With the result, A&M–Texarkana moves to 8-1-2 overall and 3-0-1 in conference play. The Eagles will return to action on Thursday, October 9, traveling to New Orleans, Louisiana to face Xavier University of Louisiana at 1 p.m. at Lafreniere Park in Metairie, La.
