SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Texas A&M University–Texarkana women's soccer team opened Red River Athletic Conference play in San Antonio with an impressive 3-2 victory over the Saints of Our Lady of the Lake University.
The Saints struck first in the opening minutes, but the Eagles answered less than a minute later when Lillian Miller netted the equalizer off an assist from Desiree Narvaez. TAMUT grabbed the lead midway through the first half as Narvaez found the back of the net, assisted by Ava Axtle. OLLU leveled the score in the 33rd minute, sending the match into halftime tied 2-2.
The decisive moment came in the 67th minute, when senior defender Paige Haderlie capitalized on a shot off the post by Miller following a free kick from Judith Lopez, putting the Eagles ahead 3-2.
Despite being outshot 18-14, the Eagles' defense held firm, with goalkeeper Layla Anaya recording seven saves to secure her second win of the season.
With the victory, TAMUT improves to 1-0 in RRAC play (6-1-1 overall) and will remain in San Antonio for their next matchup against system rival Texas A&M–San Antonio on Saturday, September 27. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
