STAFFORD, Texas — A&M-Texarkana broke open a tie game early in the second half with a pair of goals to secure a big 3-1 conference win over North American on the road. The Eagles (5-5-0 overall, 3-2-0 RRAC) moved into the top half of the conference table while the Mustangs (3-3-0, 2-2-0) fell into the bottom half.
John Candelo scored an unassisted goal just four minutes into the contest to put the Eagles on the board and they held the lead for almost 30 minutes before NAU tied it in the 29th minute. In the 62nd minute, Diego Picano notched the game-winner with an assist by Dante Zavala, then Christian Gomez added an unassisted goal in the 74th minute to put the match out of reach.
The Eagles are on the road again Saturday to face first-place Xavier in New Orleans.
