Deering Wins Attacker of the Week Award

WACO, Texas – Alanna Deering of Texas A&M University-Texarkana earned the RRAC Volleyball Attacker of the Week honor for Sept. 23-29. Bengisu Kazazlar of Xavier University (La.) captured the RRAC Setter of the Week award, and Xavier's Ruxandra Flueras was selected as the RRAC Defender of the Week for the same dates. This is the sixth set of weekly winners for the 2024 RRAC volleyball season.  

Deering lifted the Eagles to back-to-back sweeps of Jarvis Christian University (Texas) on Friday and Saturday. The sophomore outside hitter from Fort Worth, Texas, compiled 20 kills on 43 total attacks with only four errors for a .372 hitting percentage. Deering averaged 3.3 kills per set for the week, raising her average to 2.5 for the season. TAMUT is 5-1 in conference play and 9-10 overall.

Kazazlar averaged 11.4 assists per set in two match victories for the Gold Nuggets over University of the Southwest (N.M.). The sophomore setter from Izmir, Turkey, had her best week of the season with 45 assists in the first match and 35 in the second. Kazazlar also contributed 15 digs and eight kills while hitting .278. She is fourth in the RRAC with 6.9 assists per set this season. Xavier evened its conference mark at 2-2 while improving to 5-11 on the season.

Flueras posted 50 digs for the week including 26 in three sets on Saturday. The graduate student libero from Chieri, Italy, averaged 7.1 digs per set with a .906 reception percentage. Flueras is tied for second in the conference with 266 digs this season.
