Women's Track and Field Places 3rd at RRAC Championships
NEW ORLEANS, La. - The Texas A&M University–Texarkana women's track & field team placed third with 140 points at the Red River Athletic Conference Track and Field Championships, held at Tad Gormley Stadium in New Orleans.
The Eagles recorded multiple event wins on the weekend. Kayla Reeves won both the 3000m (11:06.22) and 5000m (19:28.44), and also placed fifth in the 800m (2:27.45). Vinae Edwards won the triple jump (11.31m, NAIA #28) and the long jump (5.52m). J'Layah Spellman Collins captured the 400m title in 58.47 and added a third-place finish in the 200m (25.23) and a fifth-place finish in the 100m (12.71). Ja'Kouria Jamerson won the 400m hurdles in 1:03.66 (personal best, NAIA #35).
Texas A&M–Texarkana added several All-Conference performances (top four). The 4x100m relay team of Damaria Bell, Spellman Collins, Jamerson, and Edwards placed second in 47.59 (season best, NAIA #27). Damaria Bell also placed third in the 100m hurdles with a personal-best 14.26 (NAIA #24). In the field events, R'Naziah Johnson finished third in the javelin (28.12m), while Teegan Roach placed fourth in the hammer throw (34.11m) and Janiya Ross added a fourth-place finish in the high jump (1.55m).
Bell placed sixth in the 100m (12.74) and seventh in the 200m with a personal-best 25.89, while Jamerson added an 11th-place finish in the 100m (13.41) and 13th in the 200m (27.14). Elliana Edwards placed sixth in the 400m hurdles with a personal-best 1:09.64 and seventh in the 100m hurdles (17.55).
In the throwing events, Ava Ferreira placed sixth in the discus (36.63m), fifth in the hammer throw (32.55m), and seventh in the shot put with a personal-best 9.13m. R'Naziah Johnson added a fifth-place finish in the discus (36.64m) and sixth in the hammer throw (25.05m), while Adara Adesanya recorded a personal best in the shot put (10.94m) to place fifth.
In the jumping events, Ross also placed 10th in the long jump (4.97m), and Jamerson finished sixth in the high jump (1.50m). Chukwudera Emeh added a ninth-place finish in the 400m (1:04.64).
The Eagles totaled 140 points in the team standings to finish third overall at the conference meet.
