Women’s Track Posts Strong Marks at Jim Mize Invitational
RUSTON, La. - The Texas A&M University–Texarkana women's track & field team delivered a competitive showing at the Jim Mize Invitational, hosted by Louisiana Tech in Ruston, Louisiana, highlighted by a runner-up finish in the 4x100-meter relay and another national qualifying mark in the triple jump.
The 4x100-meter relay team of Damaria Bell, Spellman-Collins, Jakouria Jamerson, and Vinae Edwards paced the Eagles with a second-place finish, crossing the line in 48.21. Edwards also turned in a strong individual performance in the triple jump, placing fourth with a mark of 11.90 meters while securing another NAIA "B" Standard.
In the field events, R'Naziah Johnson led the way with a pair of sixth-place finishes, recording a throw of 34.16 meters in the discus and 26.05 meters in the javelin. Jamerson added a seventh-place mark in the javelin at 21.64 meters, while Janiya Ross cleared 1.56 meters to finish fourth in the high jump.
On the track, Jamerson continued her solid day with a fourth-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles, clocking in at 1:08.12. Bell competed in the 100 meters, finishing 18th with a time of 12.51.
The Eagles also saw action in the 4x400-meter relay, where the team of Bell, Spellman-Collins, Jamerson, and Reeves posted a time of 4:15.26 to place fifth.
The Eagles will return to action April 24th as they travel to New Orleans for the RRAC Championships.
