Women’s Tennis Falls in RRAC Tournament to No. 6 Xavier (LA)
NEW ORLEANS, La. — Texas A&M University–Texarkana Women's Tennis saw its postseason run come to a close on Thursday afternoon, falling 4-0 to No. 6 Xavier University of Louisiana in the Red River Athletic Conference Championships Quarterfinals.
The Gold Nuggets secured the early advantage by sweeping all three doubles courts. The pairing of Ana Gonzalez and Lucia Siddens dropped the No. 1 position 6-1, while Adrianne Guangko and Emmanouela Besi fell 5-2 at No. 2. Andrea Castillo and Zahra Dreyer-Ferreira rounded out doubles play with a 6-2 decision at the No. 3 spot.
In singles action, Xavier carried its momentum to clinch the match with three straight-set victories. Ana Gonzalez fell 6-2, 6-2 at the top flight, and Zahra Dreyer-Ferreira dropped a 6-1, 6-2 decision at No. 2. Andrea Castillo was also defeated in straight sets at No. 5 to seal the team result.
Several matches went unfinished as play was halted once the team score was decided. Lucia Siddens was in control at No. 3 singles after taking the opening set 6-3 and leading in the second. Emmanouela Besi and Adrianne Guangko were also in competitive positions in their respective matches prior to the stoppage.
The Eagles will now await their postseason fate, as the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Selection Show will reveal all qualifiers for the National Championships on April 28 at 3 p.m.
