Strong Singles Play Lifts Women's Tennis Past CBU
ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Texas A&M University–Texarkana women's tennis earned a strong 5–2 victory over Christian Brothers University on February 6th, showcasing a dominant performance in singles play to secure the team win.
The Buccaneers opened the match by claiming the doubles point, taking wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions. TAMUT's pairings of Ana Gonzalez/Lucia Siddens and Emmanouela Besi/Zahra Dreyer-Fereira both fell 6–3, giving Christian Brothers the early 1–0 advantage.
The Eagles quickly responded in singles action, winning four contested matches while also picking up two additional points by default to seal the victory.
Gonzalez led the charge at No. 1 singles with a decisive 6–4, 6–4 straight-sets win. Siddens followed at the No. 2 position, earning a 6–2, 6–4 victory. Dreyer Ferreira delivered one of the most dominant performances of the day at No. 3 singles, blanking her opponent 6–0, 6–0.
Christian Brothers collected its lone singles point at No. 4, where Emmanouela Besi dropped a three-set tiebreak battle. Andrea Castillo and Adrianne Guangko secured wins by default at the No. 5 and No. 6 spots to round out the scoring for the Eagles.
The win highlights TAMUT's depth across the singles lineup as the Eagles continue to build momentum early in the spring season.
