Texarkana, Texas – The Texas A&M University-Texarkana women's soccer team continued its strong start to the season Saturday evening, defeating Wiley University 4-1 at home on Judy Kelley Morgan Soccer Field.
Angela Barrio opened the scoring in the 27th minute, finishing off a feed from Lillian Miller. Just three minutes later, Brooklyn Lattier doubled the advantage, slotting home a setup from Jailah Benson to give TAMUT a 2-0 lead at the break.
After Wiley pulled one back early in the second half, the Eagles responded in emphatic fashion. Lattier netted her second goal of the night in the 56th minute off another assist from Miller, and Barrio capped the scoring in the 77th minute with her second of the match.
A&M-Texarkana controlled the pace throughout, outshooting Wiley 25-16 and forcing 16 saves from the opposing goalkeeper. On the defensive end, Nayomy Cueva and Makenzie Dellinger combined for nine saves to secure the victory.
The win improves the Eagles to 4-1-1 on the year. Women's soccer returns to action Saturday, September 20, with a home matchup against Paul Quinn.
