Texas A&M-Texarkana scored midway into the first half, then added another early in the second half while the defense kept Texas Wesleyan scoreless Monday for a 2-0 non-conference win at Morgan Field.
The Eagles (5-0-0) stayed unbeaten on the season with a stifling defensive effort and aggressive offensive performance that kept the ball in their offensive half for most of the night. The Rams (2-3-1) were held to just seven shots with only three of those on the mark. Ivana Robinson made all three saves and kept a clean sheet for the victory in goal.
Freshman Desiree Narvaez scored her team-leading third goal of the season and her second game-winner off an assist from Brooklyn Lattier in the 22nd minute to put the home team in front for good. The assist was Lattier's fourth of the season.
Alyssa Daily added an unassisted goal in the 51st minute – her second of the year in as many matches – to double the lead and put the match out of reach. The Eagles put 18 shots to the Rams' net with nine shots on goal.
The Eagles are in San Antonio later this week to open conference play with 1 pm matches at A&M-San Antonio on Thursday, and Our Lady of the Lake on Saturday.
