When the A&M-Texarkana women's soccer team takes the pitch for the 2023 season, they'll have a target on their backs as the defending conference champions. That season kicks off in a little more than a month with the Eagles looking to defend their Red River Athletic Conference title.
The Eagles went 17-2-1 a year ago, including a 10-0-1 run through conference play before beating LSU-Alexandria in the RRAC tournament final for the programs' first league title. The 17 wins set a new program single season record and gives Don Koontz' club seven double-digit win totals in just nine seasons. The program should eclipse the 100-win mark this season.
The Eagles boast a handful of all-conference performers returning to Texarkana this fall, including Alyssa Daily, who took Offensive Player of the Year, Newcomer of the Year, and 1st Team All-RRAC honors in 2022 after posting a conference-best 16 goals and 39 points.
Also returning are Abigail McGuire (1st Team), Johana Rodriguez (2nd Team) and All-Freshman Team members Karah Chappell, Emily Navarette, and Katelyn Allen.
The Eagles will play exhibition matches at East Texas Baptist University (Aug. 19) and at home against Paris Junior College (Aug. 22) and the season officially opens Aug. 26 when the Eagles host Central Baptist at Morgan Field.
The next three matches are away from Texarkana, at Williams Baptist, Wiley College, and Bethel (Tenn.) before returning home on Sept. 11 to face Texas Wesleyan. Conference play begins Sept. 14 with the Eagles facing TAMU-San Antonio and Our Lady of the Lake on the road.
The first conference home contests are slated against Huston-Tillotson (Sept. 21) and UH-Victoria (Sept. 23). Those are followed by road games against new RRAC members North American (Sept. 28) and the Eagles' first-ever meeting with Xavier (La.) on Sept. 30.
Home dates against Louisiana Christian (Oct. 5) and LSU-Alexandria (Oct. 7) open the month of October, then the team is back on the road at Paul Quinn (Oct. 12) and Southwest (NM) before ending the regular season with three straight home dates against LSU-Shreveport, Jarvis Christian, and Texas College.
The Eagles will again host the Red River Athletic Conference championship tournament, scheduled for Nov. 3-11 at Morgan Field. For the complete 2023 schedule, complete with dates, times and locations, CLICK HERE.
