Women’s Basketball Rally Comes Up Just Short in 81–79 Battle at TAMUSA
SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Texas A&M University–Texarkana women's basketball team mounted a determined second-half comeback but fell just short in an 81–79 road loss to Texas A&M–San Antonio on Saturday night, closing out regular-season play Texas A&M University–Texarkana Texas A&M University–San Antonio.
The Eagles weathered a challenging first half, trailing 25–12 after the opening quarter and 49–28 at the break as the Jaguars shot 46.9 percent from the floor across the first two periods.
TAMUT responded with intensity coming out of halftime. The Eagles outscored TAMUSA 25–13 in the third quarter behind efficient shooting and strong interior play, trimming the deficit to single digits entering the fourth. A&M–Texarkana continued to apply pressure in the final frame, pouring in 26 points and cutting the lead to just two in the closing moments, but the rally came up just short.
Breyionce George led the way with a dominant 22-point performance on 10-of-16 shooting while adding eight rebounds. Maiya Petit followed with 16 points and five boards, and Chioma Treasure Emeh recorded 13 points and seven rebounds.
Eleionna Brown added 10 points, while Imani Rothschild chipped in five points and four rebounds. As a team, TAMUT shot 45.8 percent from the field and scored 58 points in the paint.
The Eagles forced 23 turnovers and converted them into 30 points while also holding a 44–41 edge on the glass.
Women's basketball now turns its attention to postseason play. The Eagles will host the Trailblazers of University of North Texas at Dallas on Wednesday, February 25 at 5:30 p.m. in the RRAC Quarterfinals.
