Women’s Basketball Battles Past North American for First Win of the New Year
STAFFORD, Texas – The Texas A&M University–Texarkana women's basketball team responded in Red River Athletic Conference play Thursday evening, earning a 56–52 road victory over North American University.
The Eagles set the tone early, jumping out to an 18–12 lead after the opening quarter and limiting North American to just 21 first-half points. TAMUT's defensive pressure and control of the paint carried into the second quarter, sending the Eagles into halftime with a 29–21 advantage.
Texas A&M–Texarkana maintained its composure through a tightly contested second half, answering multiple North American runs and shooting an efficient 60 percent from the field in the fourth quarter to secure the win. The Eagles finished with a 36–33 rebounding edge and outscored the Stallions 36–30 in the paint.
Imani Rothschild led TAMUT with 11 points, four rebounds, four assists, and a team-best three steals, while Chi'onne Dailey added 14 points and connected on five free throws in key moments. Ty'Shelle Harris
provided a strong spark off the bench with 10 points and seven rebounds, and Chioma Treasure Emeh contributed nine points, seven rebounds, and three assists.
TAMUT's bench totaled 18 points, delivering timely scoring throughout the contest, while the Eagles' defense forced 14 turnovers and held North American to 33 percent shooting from the floor.
With the win, Texas A&M–Texarkana improves to 7–2 in conference play and continues to build momentum as the back half of the season gets underway.
The Eagles will return to action Saturday, January 10, traveling to New Orleans for a conference matchup against Xavier University of Louisiana. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
