Women’s Basketball Earns First RRAC Victory of the Season
TEXARKANA, Texas – The Texas A&M University–Texarkana women's basketball team overcame a difficult shooting night to earn a 53–40 victory over Jarvis Christian University at the Patterson Student Center, opening Red River Athletic Conference home play.
The Eagles wasted no time taking control, holding Jarvis to just three points in the opening quarter and jumping out to a 13–3 lead. TAMUT's pressure defense continued to disrupt the Bulldogs in the second quarter, as the Eagles carried a 29–17 advantage into halftime.
Jarvis attempted to cut into the deficit in the second half, but the Eagles answered with timely baskets and strong rebounding on both ends. Texas A&M–Texarkana sealed the win with a 16-point fourth quarter while holding the Bulldogs to just 12.
Breyionce George led the way with 10 points and eight rebounds, providing a steady presence inside. Imani Rothschild added eight points and two assists, while Nailah Zetrenne chipped in eight points of her own.
Maiya Petit stuffed the stat sheet with six points, seven rebounds, two steals, and a block, and Ty'Shelle Harris contributed seven points off the bench. The Eagles also received valuable minutes from Evelyn Terraza Alcántar, who added three points and three assists, and Chioma Treasure Emeh, who chipped in two points, three assists, and two steals.
TAMUT held a decisive 45–39 edge on the glass and outscored Jarvis 26–12 in the paint, while holding the Bulldogs to just 22.4 percent shooting from the floor.
With the win, Texas A&M–Texarkana improves to 2–5 on the season and 1–1 in RRAC play as the Eagles continue to build momentum in conference competition.
