Bio
Deacon Jones enters his first season as the Head Women's Basketball Coach at Texas A&M University-Texarkana, bringing with him a wealth of experience and a strong track record of success at multiple levels of the game.
Prior to joining the Eagles, Jones spent 11 seasons at the University of Louisiana, including the last seven as Associate Head Coach under Garry Brodhead. A key figure in the turnaround of the Ragin’ Cajuns women’s basketball program, Jones helped lead the team to four consecutive winning seasons from 2014–2018—a first in program history—and three 20-plus win seasons during that stretch. Under his guidance, the Cajuns captured back-to-back WBI Tournament Championships in 2015 and 2016 and made their first-ever appearance in the WNIT in 2021. In addition to his coaching responsibilities, Jones managed several administrative aspects of the Louisiana program, including player housing and scheduling.
Before his collegiate coaching career, Jones had a dominant run at St. Thomas More High School, where he helped guide the team to a 120-13 record over four seasons, winning back-to-back state championships in 2011 and 2012. He also led the Acadiana Stars AAU team to three straight state championships and a third-place finish at the AAU Division I Nationals in 2011. Earlier in his career, he founded and coached the Acadiana Lady Hoops and co-founded the Acadiana Hoops boys AAU program, which consistently competed at the national level.
A native of Lafayette, Louisiana, and a 1999 graduate of the University of Louisiana, Coach Jones now begins an exciting new chapter in his career, leading the Texas A&M-Texarkana women’s basketball program into its next era.
