Fourth Quarter Surge Propels Wildcats over Eagles 74-71
TEXARKANA, Texas – Texas A&M University-Texarkana women's basketball team hosted the Wildcats of Louisiana Christian yesterday afternoon for a Red River Athletic Conference double header with the men. Despite leading for most of the game, Texas A&M-Texarkana couldn't hold off a furious fourth-quarter rally by Louisiana Christian, falling 74-71 in a tough home loss.
The Eagles built a 35-24 lead at halftime and maintained control through three quarters, but a 30-point explosion from Louisiana Christian in the final period flipped the game.
Senior forward Kayla Williams was dominant, posting a monster double-double with 22 points and 18 rebounds while shooting an efficient 8-13 from the field. Delfina Misiuna also made an impact, grabbing 10 rebounds to go along with 9 points.
Shooting struggles, particularly from deep, hurt the Eagles, as they went just 4-25 (16%) from three-point range. Chi'onne Dailey led the team with 19 shot attempts but could only convert 4, finishing with 11 points. The team also struggled to take care of the ball, committing 17 turnovers.
Despite their efforts, Texarkana's offense sputtered in the final quarter, managing only 13 points while Louisiana Christian capitalized on key free throws and timely shooting to steal the win.
The Eagles return to action on Saturday, Feb. 15, hosting the Jarvis Christian Bulldogs for their final home game of the season. Prior to tipoff at 1 p.m. in the Patterson Student Center, Women's Basketball will honor its seven seniors in a special ceremony.
