Eagles Soar Past Wildcats in Thrilling 75-69 Victory
PINEVILLE, La. - Women's Basketball traveled to Pineville, Louisiana to face off against the Wildcats of Louisiana Christian for game one of a men's and women's RRAC matchup yesterday afternoon. The Eagles would emerge victorious with a final score of 75-69 earning them their second win of the season.
Kayla Williams would drain a three pointer from the top of the key to get the game started for the Eagles. Williams would follow the three with a jumper in the paint off an assist from Delfina Misiuna, and the Eagles would go up 5-0 over the Wildcats. The run would not stop there, and the Eagles would outscore the Wildcats 17-0 during the first seven minutes of play. The Wildcats would finally get on the board with just over three minutes left to play in the first, off a layup by Princis Goff. At the end of the first quarter, the Wildcats would cut the deficit to single digits, 19-10.
Louisiana Christian would turn up the intensity on the Eagles, and with five and half minutes left to play in the first, the Wildcats would gain their first lead of the game. LCU would hold the Eagles scoreless for the next four minutes, until Kayla Williams would connect on a jump shot with 1:41 left in the quarter. Heading into the half, the Wildcats held onto the lead over the Eagles with a score of 35-31.
The Wildcats would hold onto the lead throughout the third quarter, and heading into the last 10 minutes of play LCU would be up on TAMUT, 57-52. The Eagles would even the score in the opening minutes of the fourth at 57. A steal and a made basket by Evelyn Terraza Alcantar would earn the Eagles the lead over the Wildcats, and TAMUT would never look back and at the final buzzer the Eagles would emerge victorious with a score of 75-69.
Kayla Williams led the Eagles in scoring and rebounding with a season high 26 points, and 9 rebounds, just one rebound shy of her fifth double-double of the season. Gigi Waddell would also record double digits for the Eagles with 16 points on 5 of 7 shooting and 100% shooting from beyond the arc.
The Eagles have one last game before the new year. They will travel to Hawkins, Texas this coming Tuesday, December 17th, to take on the Bulldogs of Jarvis Christian. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30pm in the E.W Rand Center on the JCU campus.
