TEXARKANA, Texas – Texas A&M University–Texarkana Softball battled one of the nation's top teams over the weekend, taking on No. 7-ranked Our Lady of the Lake in a three-game Red River Athletic Conference series at Bramlett Field.
The Eagles showed resilience throughout the series, highlighted by a thrilling extra-inning victory in the opener, before the Saints claimed the final two contests.
In game one, A&M-Texarkana delivered one of its most impressive wins of the season, outlasting OLLU 4–3 in 10 innings. After falling behind early, the Eagles responded with a three-run fourth inning sparked by a two-run home run from Skyler Martin and an RBI double from Mackenzie Williams to take the lead.
OLLU evened the score in the sixth, but the Eagles' pitching staff held firm down the stretch. Sarah Phillips was outstanding in relief, tossing four shutout innings to earn the win and keep the Saints off the board late.
In the bottom of the 10th, the Eagles capitalized on the international tiebreaker rule, as Brooke Usrey delivered a walk-off RBI single to right-center to secure the upset victory over the No. 7 team in the nation.
Game two saw the Saints respond with a 9–0 victory. OLLU struck early with four runs in the first inning and added five more in the sixth to pull away. The Eagles were limited offensively to just two hits in the contest, with Mackenzie Williams and Victoria Clayton accounting for both.
In the series finale, the Eagles once again showed fight, taking a 2–1 lead through three innings. Kamryn Walker delivered an RBI double, and Skyler Martin followed with an RBI single to give A&M-Texarkana the advantage.
However, OLLU used a five-run seventh inning to rally and claim a 6–2 win, securing the series. Despite the loss, the Eagles' pitching staff kept the Saints in check for much of the game before the late surge.
A&M-Texarkana (29-11, 16-4 RRAC) will look to bounce back next week as they hit the road for a conference series against Xavier beginning April 17.
