ALEXANDRIA, Louisiana – The Texas A&M–Texarkana softball team battled through a tough road conference series this weekend, earning a split across the three-game set against #20 LSU Alexandria with a 9–7 victory in the opener before falling 9–4 and 8–3 in the final two games.
TAMUT came out strong in game one, using a huge sixth inning to rally past the Generals. Trailing 4–2 entering the sixth, the Eagles erupted for seven runs, highlighted by a three-run double from Skyler Martin and a grand slam from Madison Ruiz that completely flipped the momentum and gave TAMUT a 9–4 lead .
Ruiz powered the offense in the opener, finishing with three hits and five RBIs, while Martin added three RBIs of her own. Brooke Usrey recorded two hits and Grace Cantu added a home run as the Eagles finished with 10 hits in the win .
In the circle, Rylee Glenn struck out eight over 4.1 innings before Charli Miller and Alexis Snyder combined to close the game and secure the victory .
Game two remained competitive early, with TAMUT holding a 4–2 lead after a two-run fifth inning sparked by RBI singles from Mackenzie Williams and Grace Cantu. LSU Alexandria responded with a five-run fifth inning to regain control, and the Eagles were unable to recover as the Generals pulled away for the 9–4 win .
Williams led the offense in the second game with three hits, while Cantu added two hits and an RBI. Jaquelyn Schmidt also drove in a run as TAMUT finished with eight hits in the contest .
The Eagles looked to bounce back in the series finale, but LSU Alexandria jumped ahead early with a five-run third inning. TAMUT continued to fight late, getting RBI hits from Brooke Usrey, Grace Cantu, and Presley Humphrey, but the Generals held on for the 8–3 win to close the series .
Usrey, Cantu, and Humphrey each drove in a run in the finale, while Madison Ruiz and Usrey also recorded hits. TAMUT totaled four hits in the game as LSU Alexandria finished with 13 hits overall .
With the series now complete, TAMUT moves to 21–7 overall and 10–2 in RRAC play.
The Eagles will return home next week as they host Dallas Christian for a midweek matchup before conference play continues at Bramlett Field against Texas College on Friday.
