TEXARKANA, Texas — Texas A&M University–Texarkana Softball opened Red River Athletic Conference play in dominant fashion, sweeping Louisiana Christian in a three-game home series at Bramlett Field
The Eagles outscored the Wildcats 23–1 across the series, pitching two shutouts and playing flawless defense in all three contests.
Game One: TAMUT 12, Louisiana Christian 0 (5 innings)
TAMUT set the tone early in Friday's opener, exploding offensively in a 12–0 run-rule victory.
The Eagles broke the game open in the second inning, scoring five runs behind a Martin RBI double, a Cantu RBI single, a Williams RBI groundout, and a two-run Wildcat error. TAMUT added three more runs in the third on RBI singles from Yaross, Usrey, and Walker to extend the lead.
Ruiz led the offensive charge, going a perfect 3-for-3 with a double and two singles. Walker and Ruiz each collected three hits, while Martin and Usrey added multi-hit performances. Cantu, hitting out of the seven spot, drove in three runs as TAMUT finished with 14 hits.
In the circle, Glenn was untouchable, tossing five no-hit innings with four strikeouts to secure the shutout and a no-hitter. The Eagles were equally sharp defensively, committing no errors, with Schmidt leading the way with five fielding chances.
Game Two: TAMUT 6, Louisiana Christian 0
The Eagles carried the momentum into Saturday, earning another shutout victory, 6–0.
TAMUT struck early in the first inning, scoring on a wild pitch before Ruiz delivered an RBI single to make it 2–0. Cantu added to the lead in the second with a solo home run to center field.
Snyder delivered a strong start, allowing just three hits across six scoreless innings while striking out three. Miller closed the door with a single hit seventh inning to complete the combined shutout.
Schmidt and Ruiz each tallied two hits, while Walker drove in two runs. The Eagles were once again flawless defensively, with Humphrey recording a team-high seven chances in the field.
Game Three: TAMUT 5, Louisiana Christian 1
TAMUT completed the sweep with a 5–1 victory in Saturday's finale.
The Eagles jumped in front in the first inning when Ruiz singled home a run and Cantu followed with an RBI groundout. Schmidt paced the offense with a 3-for-4 performance, collecting singles in the first, third, and fifth innings. Hernandez added two hits in the win.
Benge earned the victory in the circle, allowing just one run over five innings of work. Glenn added two scoreless innings in relief to secure the win and earn the save. TAMUT turned a double play defensively and once again did not commit an error, with Humphrey leading the team with nine fielding chances.
The Eagles will look to keep the momentum rolling as they return to action Tuesday against Ouachita Baptist. First pitch is set for 1 & 3 p.m.
