WILLIAMSBURG, Ky.— Texas A&M University-Texarkana rebounded from a 5-1 loss to Cumberlands (Ky.) with a 2-1 victory over Mobile on Wednesday, earning a split on the opening day of postseason play at the UC Softball Complex and a trip to the Williamsburg Bracket Championship.
In the opener, the Eagles were held scoreless through six innings by Cumberlands ace Lindsey Shope, who allowed six hits and struck out two over five shutout frames. TAMUT scratched across a run in the seventh on a double by Macey Cutsinger that scored Kasen Morkisch, but the rally ended there.
Morkisch and Grace Cantu each had two hits for TAMUT, which finished with nine hits overall but left eight runners on base. Alexis Snyder took the loss, allowing three runs over four innings. The Patriots scored twice in the fourth and added two unearned runs in the fifth to pull away.
In the second game, TAMUT responded behind a complete-game effort from Rylee Glenn , who limited Mobile to five hits and one run over seven innings. The Eagles tied the game in the third on an RBI double from Usrey, and took the lead for good in the sixth when Cantu delivered a two-out RBI single to make it 2-1.
Cantu went 2-for-3 with the game-winning hit, while Usrey and Morkisch added doubles.
The Eagles advance to the Williamsburg Bracket Championship where they will have a chance at a rematch with the Patriots, the Eagles will have to win two to advance to the NAIA World Series in Columbus, Georgia. First pitch is set for 11:00 a.m. ET Thursday morning.
