The 2023 Cross Country season is just a month away, and the defending conference champion men's team, along with a young women's team, are gearing up for their first meet of the fall – a Sept. 2 competition in Nacogdoches.
The men – led by senior Charles Dorsett III – boast a 11-man roster with sophomore Adan Gutierrez also returning. The Eagles added junior transfer Abraham Mallam, sophomores David Hernandez and Shea Johnson, and a total of four freshmen.
The women's team welcomes back senior Angelique Colon, and sophomore Skyler Brannan, to go with five new freshmen to round out the roster. Brannan's sister, Zalenka, joins the team from Whitesboro High School, which won a state championship in women's cross country last fall.
The teams will open the season at the Lumberjack Country Invitational, hosted by Stephen F. Austin University, then run at home in the Eagles Opener on Sept. 8. Both teams will also compete in Stillwater, Okla., and Little Rock, as well as College Station.
A&M-Texarkana will once again host the Red River Athletic Conference Championships on Nov. 3 and the NAIA Cross Country Championships are slated for Nov. 17 in Vancouver, Wash.
