Track & Field Tallies National Marks Ahead of Championship Season
HOUSTON, Texas - The Texas A&M University–Texarkana Indoor Track & Field program delivered a strong showing across multiple events this weekend, highlighted by podium finishes, national marks, and several improvements to the NAIA performance list at the Howie Ryan Invitational.
On the field side, the Eagles were led by an impressive performance in the men's triple jump. Darlington Onsarigo captured a third-place finish with a leap of 14.65m, moving him to No. 11 on the NAIA national list while also surpassing the NAIA B Standard in the event. Teammates Wynell Winkfield (6th, 14.27m – NAIA No. 35) and Dexter Lockett (8th, 13.91m – NAIA No. 50) added depth to a dominant event for TAMUT.
In the women's high jump, Janiya Ross cleared 1.55m to finish seventh while moving into the NAIA rankings at No. 80. Ariyah Ford added another national mark in the women's shot put, placing ninth with a throw of 13.05m (NAIA No. 22). Kyra Togni competed in the women's weight throw, recording a 22nd-place finish at 13.19m.
On the track, Giovani Jean-Pierre turned in one of the top performances of the meet for the Eagles, finishing fourth in the men's 400m with a time of 48.81. J'Layah Spellman Collins also made a move onto the national list, placing 12th in the women's 400m (57.95 – NAIA No. 38).
Kayla Reeves competed in multiple distance events, placing 12th in the women's 600y (1:33.57) and 21st in the women's 3000m (10:48.14). In the hurdles, Damaria Bell clocked 9.14 in the women's 60m hurdle prelims, while Glenn Parker ran 8.65 in the men's prelims.
The men's mile group saw Levi Wagner (4:58.06), Graycen Vargo (4:58.16), and Terrance Toliver II (5:02.42) finish back-to-back in the standings. The trio, along with Chapman White, also competed in the 3000m, where Wagner led the Eagles with a 25th-place finish (9:12.73).
Sprint depth showed in the men's 200m as Jeffrey Legrand (22.27), Desroy Jordan (22.30), and Glenn Parker (22.64) all posted solid times.
The meet concluded with a strong effort in the men's 4x400m relay, where the team of LeGrand, Jordan, Jean-Pierre, Erikewe, and Parker placed fifth with a time of 3:21.86.
Overall, the Eagles left the meet with multiple NAIA marks, a podium finish, and continued momentum as they push deeper into the indoor season.
Track and Field will be back in action on February 20th at the Crimson and Cream Qualifier, hosted by University of Oklahoma, for one final meet before the NAIA National Indoor Championships.
