Indoor Track & Field Turns in Solid Showing at Pittsburg State
PITTSBURG, Kansas – The Texas A&M University–Texarkana track and field program turned in a solid showing at the Pittsburg State Invitational, competing against a deep field of talented athletes in both track and field events. The Eagles saw multiple top-10 finishes and notable performances throughout the meet.
Field Events
The women's throws group was led by Ariyah Ford, who placed 10th in the shot put with a mark of 12.27 meters, while also finishing 14th in the weight throw at 14.59 meters. Kyra Togni added a 28th-place finish in the weight throw, recording 12.63 meters.
In the jumps, Vinae Edwards delivered one of the top performances of the meet for the Eagles, finishing 5th in the women's triple jump with a mark of 11.61 meters, surpassing the NAIA B standard. Ja'Kouria Jamerson placed 15th in the women's high jump (1.53m), while Edwards also competed in the long jump.
On the men's side, Darlington Onsarigo led the way with an 11th-place finish in the long jump (6.60m) and an 8th-place finish in the triple jump (14.11m). Wynell Winkfield finished 10th in the triple jump (13.71m), followed closely by Dexter Lockett in 11th (13.43m). Lockett also placed 20th in the long jump, while Senhotchy Saint Jean finished 23rd.
Track Events
Distance runners saw strong efforts in the 5,000 meters, highlighted by Kayla Reeves, who placed 14th in the women's race with a time of 18:29.01. Reeves followed that up with a 15th-place finish in the 3,000 meters (10:52.13). On the men's side, Terrance Toliver II (16:39.92) and Faizone Ogendo (17:01.71) finished 34th and 36th, respectively.
In the sprints and hurdles, Jayden Erickewe recorded a 9th-place finish in the men's 60m hurdles prelims with a time of 8.39, just narrowly missing qualifying for the finals, while Damaria Bell finished 14th in the women's prelims (9.09). Giovani Jean-Pierre led the men's 60m dash group, placing 12th in prelims with a time of 6.88.
Jean-Pierre also turned in a strong performance in the 400m dash, finishing 13th with a time of 48.74. In the women's 400m, J'Layah Spellman Collins placed 25th (1:00.23), followed by Chukwudera Emeh in 36th.
The Eagles closed the meet with solid relay performances, as the men's 4x400m relay team of Erickewe, Jean-Pierre, Jordan, and Parker placed 9th with a time of 3:20.47. The men's distance medley relay finished 11th, clocking 11:12.41.
Texas A&M–Texarkana will continue building momentum as the Eagles prepare for their next meet, the FasTrak Collegiate Indoor Classic hosted by the University of Houston, on February 7th.
