David Lawrence Jr.

Bio

David Lawrence Jr. is in his first year as the head cross country and track & field coach at Texas A&M University–Texarkana. He brings over a decade of collegiate coaching experience, most recently serving at Sonoma State University, where he led both programs to historic success in the CCAA. Under his leadership, the cross country team earned back-to-back top-10 finishes at the conference championships for the first time since 2014.

In track & field, Lawrence Jr. guided Sonoma State to its best finish in program history with multiple podium placements and school records across sprint, distance, and relay events. Prior to Sonoma State, he coached at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, where he was a two-time Skyline Conference Coach of the Year and led both the men’s and women’s teams to multiple conference titles and runner-up finishes.

A U.S. Army veteran, Lawrence Jr. served in Operation Just Cause in Panama. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Sacramento State and a master’s in Sports Management from California University of Pennsylvania. He also spent six years as a USATF regional coordinator, helping run national championship events. At TAMUT, Lawrence Jr. brings a passion for building strong, competitive teams and helping student-athletes thrive on and off the field.
