Men’s Tennis Picks Up Two Wins in Arlington
ARLINGTON, Texas – The Texas A&M University–Texarkana men's tennis team continued its strong stretch of play with a pair of victories in Arlington, defeating OUAZ 5-2 before earning a 6-1 win over the University of Dallas.
The Eagles opened the day with a 5-2 win over OUAZ. After dropping the No. 1 doubles match, Texarkana responded with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 as the pairs of Fedir Zalievskyi / Lucas Yamaguti and Alvaro Tormo / Lawson Swain secured the doubles point.
In singles play, the Eagles won four of the six courts to clinch the match. Sebastian Romanos battled through a three-set victory at No. 2 singles, while Matias Peñaranda, Jose Rodrigues, and Lucas Yamaguti each earned straight-set wins at No. 3, No. 5, and No. 6, respectively.
A&M-Texarkana followed with a dominant 6-1 victory over the University of Dallas. The Eagles controlled doubles play, picking up wins from the pairs of Alvaro Tormo Lopez / Fabio Veiga and Bramlett Baird / Yamaguti to claim the early point.
The Eagles continued their momentum into singles, winning five of six courts. Peñaranda, Lawson Swain, Tormo Lopez, and Veiga all recorded straight-set victories, while the Eagles added another point by default at No. 6 singles to secure the 6-1 team win.
