Eagles Edge Collin College 4-3 in Tight Men’s Tennis Battle
TEXARKANA, Texas – The Texas A&M University–Texarkana men's tennis team earned a hard-fought 4-3 victory over Collin College in a tightly contested match, using strong doubles play and key singles wins to secure the team result.
The Eagles took early momentum by winning two of the three doubles matches to claim the opening point.
The duo of Matias Penaranda and Jose Rodrigues set the tone with a convincing 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles over Boitshepo Maake and David De Hoyos. Lucas Yamaguti and Fedir Zalievskyi followed with another 6-2 victory at No. 2 doubles against Santiago Martinez and Niko Nadali to give TAMUT the advantage. Collin College picked up the final doubles match at No. 3, where Ander Huelamo and Philippe Dau defeated Alvaro Tormo Lopez and Lawson Swain 6-3.
In singles play, the Eagles secured three crucial wins to clinch the team victory.
Penaranda delivered a strong performance at No. 3 singles, earning a straight-set 6-3, 6-2 win over Maake. Yamaguti added another point for the Eagles at No. 6 singles, defeating Deniz Zeki 6-4, 7-5. Fedir Zalievskyi sealed the match with a clutch three-set victory at No. 5 singles, battling past Nadali 7-5, 3-6, 6-3.
Collin College picked up singles wins at the top two spots, as De Hoyos defeated Sebastian Romanos 7-5, 7-6 at No. 1 singles and Huelamo topped Marc Gonzalez Molina 6-4, 6-2 at No. 2. Dau also edged Rodrigues in a tight three-set battle at No. 4 singles, 3-6, 7-6, 6-2.
With the win, the Eagles secured the 4-3 team victory in a match that featured multiple tightly contested sets.
Texas A&M–Texarkana will return to action on Saturday, March 7, as the Eagles travel to Edmond, Oklahoma for matches against Bethany College and Southwestern College.
