LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - The Texas A&M University–Texarkana men's tennis team turned in a dominant weekend performance, earning a 6–1 victory over John Brown University before sweeping both Blue Mountain Christian University and Rust College by identical 7–0 scores in Little Rock, Arkansas.
Against John Brown, the Eagles opened the match by sweeping doubles play to secure the opening point. Lucas Yamaguti and Fedir Zalievskyi delivered a 6–0 win at No. 1 doubles, while Matias Penaranda and Jose Rodrigues earned a 6–2 decision at No. 2. Alvaro Tormo Lopez and Lawson Swain completed the sweep with a 6–4 victory at No. 3.
In singles action, TAMUT claimed five of six courts. Penaranda dominated at No. 2 singles with a 6–2, 6–1 win, while Zalievskyi battled through a three-set match at No. 3, winning 5–7, 6–4, 10–3 in the deciding tiebreak. Rodrigues secured a 6–2, 0–6, 6–3 victory at No. 4, and Yamaguti (6–4, 6–3) and Swain (6–4, 7–5) each earned straight-set wins to seal the 6–1 team result.
The Eagles carried that momentum into a 7–0 sweep over Blue Mountain Christian. After dropping No. 1 doubles, Yamaguti and Zalievskyi responded with a 6–1 win at No. 2, and Tormo Lopez and Swain clinched the doubles point with a 6–3 victory at No. 3. TAMUT dominated singles play, earning straight-set wins from Penaranda (6–3, 6–3), Marc Gonzalez Molina (6–1, 6–0), Rodrigues (6–1, 6–2), Zalievskyi (6–0, 6–0), Yamaguti (6–1, 6–1), and Fabio Veiga (6–2, 6–0).
The weekend concluded with another 7–0 sweep against Rust. The Eagles controlled doubles action, allowing just one total game across three courts with victories from Penaranda/Rodrigues (6–0), Yamaguti/Zalievskyi (6–0), and Tormo Lopez/Swain (6–1). In singles, Rodrigues (6–3, 6–1), Zalievskyi (6–0, 6–4), Yamaguti (6–0, 6–0), Swain (6–0, 6–1), Tormo Lopez (6–3, 6–2), and Veiga (6–0, 6–0) each secured straight-set wins to complete the shutout.
With the trio of victories, the Eagles claimed 20 of 21 possible points across the weekend, showcasing depth and control throughout the lineup in both doubles and singles play.
Men's Tennis will be back in action on Tuesday, March 3rd as they host Collin College. The match is set to start at 1 p.m. at the Texarkana College Tennis Courts.
