TEXARKANA, Texas – The Texas A&M University–Texarkana men's soccer team sent their seniors off in victorious fashion Saturday afternoon, defeating Jarvis Christian University 2–1 on Senior Day at Judy Kelley Morgan Field.
The Eagles struck first in the 43rd minute when Kevin Garay buried a pass from Jose Medina Cervantes to give TAMUT a 1–0 advantage heading into the half. Just five minutes into the second period, Medina Cervantes added to the lead with a goal of his own, assisted by Zachary Davalle, putting the Eagles ahead 2–0.
Jarvis Christian would cut the deficit in the 69th minute with a goal from Luis Rosales, but the Eagles' back line and goalkeeper CJ Jones held firm to preserve the win. Jones tallied six saves in 90 minutes of action, earning his second victory of the season.
TAMUT outshot the Bulldogs 14–15, with 11 of those shots on target, and displayed solid defensive discipline to close out conference play on a high note.
With the victory, the Eagles move to 7–6–5 (6–4–1 RRAC) and secure the No. 5 seed in the upcoming Red River Athletic Conference Tournament. The team will travel to San Antonio, Texas, to face Texas A&M–San Antonio in quarterfinal action next week.
