METAIRIE, La. – The Texas A&M University–Texarkana men's soccer team earned a hard-fought road victory Thursday afternoon, defeating Xavier University of Louisiana 1-0 in a Red River Athletic Conference matchup at Lafreniere Park.
After a scoreless first half that saw the Eagles under pressure from the Gold Rush offense, goalkeeper Oliver Gregory came up big, making multiple key saves to keep the match level heading into halftime.
The Eagles broke through in the 76th minute when Sacha Chindiwo buried a goal off a clean assist from Diego Picano, giving A&M–Texarkana the 1-0 advantage. The defense held firm for the remainder of the contest, turning away several late Xavier chances to secure the shutout win.
Gregory and David Yearwood combined for 10 saves on the day, preserving the clean sheet, while the Eagles managed five total shots with three on goal.
Texas A&M–Texarkana improves to 4-4-4 overall and 3-2-0 in conference play. The Eagles will travel to Alexandria, Louisiana, for their next matchup against the LSUA Generals on Saturday, October 11, with kickoff set for 3:30 p.m.
