Men's Soccer Takes Down the Bulldogs of JCU in a Thrilling 2-1 Victory
A sudden change of dates due to weather for Men's Soccer matchup versus the Bulldogs of Jarvis Christian University proved to not be a problem for the Eagles. The Eagles emerged victorious after a 2-1 final in this afternoon's game in Hawkins, Texas.
Heading into today's match, the Eagles were ranked in 8th place in the conference, just on the cusp of making it to the RRAC tournament. Ranked right above the Eagles in 7th was the Bulldogs of Jarvis Christian.
Both teams held one another to only 4 shots on goal each, the key for today's game was to capitalize on those limited shots, and TAMUT Freshman Cristobal De Leon did just that. After going into the half tied, both teams came out with urgency in the second. The first to get on the board was Jarvis Christian after Andres De Leon buried an assist from David Torres into the back of the net in the 69th minute. However, the Bulldogs did not hold the lead for long, in the 75th minute Eagles De Leon would score his first goal of the night evening out the score 1-1. De Leon would strike again in the 84th minute and grab the lead for the Eagles for the first time of the match. The Eagles would be able to hold onto the lead for the final few minutes of the match and emerge victorious over the Bulldogs.
The Eagles move to 6-8-3 on the season and 4-6-2 in conference. After today's win the Eagles move to 7thplace in the conference. The Eagles have one game left of regular season, but a conference tournament berth is still up for grabs for many teams in the middle of the conference.
