The TAMUT Eagles opened their season at home against Nelson University on August 24th at Morgan Field. Nelson entered the match with a season record of 1-0.
Nelson opened the contest with a goal early in the match. Jan Zapata headed the ball into the net on an assist from Ethan Stewart at the 11-minute mark. The Eagles would even the score a few minutes later when Oluwafisayo Oduwole scored on an assist by Diego Picano in the 17th minute.
The game remained close as Nelson managed to get off 11 shots, none of which got past the Eagles keeper, Seth Jones. The Eagles Managed to put up 6 shots but were unable to put any more past the Nelson goaltender. The Eagles best scoring chance came on a penalty kick but the shot sailed well over the net resulting in a 1-1 draw between the two teams.
The Eagles season will continue on Tuesday, August 27th with a match at home against Williams Baptist at 7:00 p.m.
