DALLAS, Texas — Christian Gomez scored a pair of goals and assisted on two others Thursday in leading A&M-Texarkana to a 5-3 conference win at Paul Quinn College. The Eagles improved to 7-7-0 overall, but more importantly they climbed to 5-4-0 in the Red River Athletic Conference and remain in contention for a berth in the conference tournament next month.
Gomez tied the match at 2-2 with his first goal in the 25th minute and his second put the match out of reach midway through the second half. Gomez now has four goals and eight assists (16 points) for the season.
Jaret Rojas also scored twice, giving him a team-high nine goals this season. He also had four assists and leads the team with 22 points. Rojas scored the first goal of the match for the Eagles, which tied the contest in the 16th minute, then added another midway through the second half when the Eagles scored three straight to go from a 2-1 deficit to a 4-2 lead.
With the match tied 2-2 at intermission, Golden Eguaikhide scored what would be the game-winner just 30 seconds into the second half – his fourth of the year – off an assist from Casey Ramirez. Diego Picano also assisted on a goal.
Jacob Mendez and Seth Brown split time in goal and combined on the win. Mendez surrendered two first-half goals and Brown limited the winless Panthers (0-12-0, 0-9-0) to a single tally.
The Eagles are on the road Saturday to face Southwest (NM) for their final road contest at 4:30 pm CT.
