NEW ORLEANS, La. — A&M-Texarkana pushed first-place Xavier to the limit Saturday, but the Gold Rush were just too much to overcome as the hosts escaped with a 2-1 win. The Eagles fell to 5-6-0 overall and 3-3-0 in the Red River Athletic Conference.
The Eagles posted more shots (16-14) and put together more opportunities from set pieces (7-3 corner kicks) but were unable to break through until the 85th minute, when Xavier had already taken a 2-0 lead.
The Gold Rush opened the scoring in the 21st minute, then added another early in the second half. Oluwafisayo Oduwole got an unassisted goal for the Eagles, but with limited time remaining they were unable to get an equalizer.
A&M-Texarkana is home this week to host Louisiana Christian at 3:30 pm Thursday, then LSU-Alexandria on Saturday at 7:30 pm.
