MARSHALL — Jaret Rojas tallied a hat trick and added an assist for good measure during Sunday's 8-0 clobbering of Wiley College at Pemberton Field. The Eagles (2-1-0) led 1-0 at the half but scored seven times in the final 30 minute of game action.
TAMUT outshot Wiley (0-4-0) by a 30-6 margin and Seth Brown recorded a shutout win in goal, saving all three shots he faced in 70 minutes of action. Meindart de Groot relived Brown in the 71st minute and did not face a shot from Wiley the rest of the way.
The Eagles entered Sunday's match winless in three prior meetings against Wiley but unleashed a second-half onslaught that was unstoppable, scoring four goals in a span of 10 minutes and two more goals in the final 90 seconds of playing time.
Rojas opened the scoring in the 31st minute with a goal assisted by Josh Bakare. In the 60th minute, he struck again, this time getting a helping hand from Christian Gomez. Rojas found Real Eguaikhide in the 65th minute to make it 3-0, then scored his third less than 90 seconds later, assisted by Diego Picano.
Picano found the net next with an unassisted effort to make it 5-0, and 10 minutes later it was Golden Eguaikhide who made it 7-0. Aaron Bocanegra (from Abdoulmaliq Adeyemo) and Oscar Mejia (from Diego Saldana) added goals in the final minutes. The Eagles' eight goals is the most since they notched an 8-0 win at Bacone two years ago (Sept. 5, 2021).
TAMUT will be on the road for its next contest, when they face unbeaten Bethel (Tenn.) on Saturday at 6 pm. Bethel (3-0-0) is off to a hot start, outscoring opponents 17-2 this season. The Wildcats are currently ranked No. 24 nationally by the NAIA.
