Eagles' second half surge sparks 4-0 shutout win

The Eagles (1-0-0) have topped CBC in two straight season-openers, besting the Mustangs in Conway a year ago, 3-2.
FIRST HALF
The two sides played evenly in the first half as the Eagles broke the scoreless tie thanks to a goal from Christian Gomez that was set up by Damilare Origunloye in the 15th minute. It would remain 1-0 at the break. TAMUT held a slim 8-6 advantage in shots and were limited by eight fouls against.
SECOND HALF
The Eagles turned it on in the second half, outshooting CBC by an 11-1 margin and adding to three goals to the tally. Dillion Williams scored twice in a span of 7:37, making it 2-0 on a score set up by Jaret Rojas, and adding a second that was assisted by Quinten Pop. Camillo Nicolas tacked on the final goal in the 75th minute off a second assist from Origunloye.
CLEAN SHEET
The Eagle defense allowed just seven shots in the contest, including a lone attempt in the second half. Central Baptist was also limited to just four corner kicks, just one of which came after halftime. Jacob Mendez earned the shutout between the pipes, making two saves.
NEXT UP
The men's club will head to Walnut Ridge, Ark. on Tuesday for a 3 pm match against Williams Baptist. WBU lost its opener Friday to Midland by a 2-1 score.
