Richard Hutchings

Bio

Richard Hutchings was named the offensive line coach at Texas A&M University–Texarkana, bringing extensive experience developing physical, disciplined front units across multiple collegiate levels.

Hutchings joined the Eagles after serving on staff at Arkansas Tech University, where he returned as the program’s offensive line coach. He previously coached at Tech during the 2016 and 2017 seasons as the H-back and tight ends coach, helping guide one of the Great American Conference’s most productive rushing attacks.

Prior to his return to Arkansas Tech, Hutchings spent two seasons as the offensive line coach at the University of North Alabama. Before his time at UNA, he served as offensive line coach and video coordinator at Hendrix College, beginning in 2021.

Hutchings also brings extensive NAIA experience from Bethel University (Tenn.), where he served as offensive line coach and run game coordinator from 2018–20. During the 2018 season, Bethel captured the Mid-South Conference championship, posted a 10–1 overall record, and earned a berth in the NAIA National Championship Opening Round. That year, the Wildcats led the NAIA in scoring offense (54.5 points per game) and ranked second nationally in both total offense and rushing offense, while finishing among the nation’s best in pass efficiency and sacks allowed.

Across his three seasons at Bethel, Hutchings’ offensive lines consistently ranked among the NAIA’s top units, including top-25 national finishes in rushing offense, scoring offense, total offense, and pass protection. He coached multiple All-MSC Bluegrass Division offensive linemen, highlighting his ability to develop talent in the trenches.

Before entering the collegiate ranks, Hutchings served as an offensive line coach at Union Hill High School (2013–15) and completed a strength and conditioning internship at Louisiana in 2016.

A former collegiate offensive lineman, Hutchings played at Langston University after beginning his career at Tyler Junior College. He earned Central States Football League Second Team honors as a junior and helped anchor offensive units that ranked nationally in rushing offense, scoring offense, and third-down efficiency.

Hutchings earned his Bachelor of Science in Physical Education from Langston University in 2013. A native of Gilmer, Texas, he and his wife, JaLesa, have one son, Zayden.
