HOBBS, N.M. – The Texas A&M University–Texarkana baseball team put together an impressive weekend at the plate, sweeping Southwest in three games behind a pair of high-powered offensive performances.
The Eagles opened the series with a dominant 10-1 victory, tallying 15 hits and breaking the game open with a four-run third inning. Ahmar Donatto led the way with a 3-for-5 performance and two RBIs, while Tanner Duncan drove in three runs. Triston Haugh also added three RBIs, and Tobin Jones recorded two hits and scored twice.
On the mound, Remi Rountree delivered a complete-game effort, allowing just one run on six hits while striking out nine to earn the win.
TAMUT carried that momentum into game two, erupting for 18 runs on 16 hits in an 18-9 victory. The Eagles scored in six different innings, including a four-run first and a four-run eighth to pull away.
The lineup saw production from top to bottom, with Ahmar Donatto driving in four runs, while James Provencio and Jayce Blalock each added two RBIs. Colton Wombles launched a two-run home run, and Brandon Sheets contributed two RBIs as part of the offensive outburst. Tobin Jones also added two RBIs and scored twice.
Despite a mid-game push from Southwest, TAMUT's bullpen held strong down the stretch, with Tiernon Wolf tossing two scoreless innings to close out the win.
In the series finale, the Eagles completed the sweep with a thrilling 10-9 victory. TAMUT collected 12 hits in the contest, with Landon West leading the charge with a 3-for-5 day and three RBIs. Ahmar Donatto added two RBIs, including a solo home run, while Tanner Duncan drove in two runs.
After surrendering a late lead in the sixth inning, the Eagles responded in the ninth as Michael Caputo delivered a clutch two-run double to plate the go-ahead runs.
On the mound, Brayden Clark earned the win in relief, tossing 3.1 shutout innings and striking out four to close the door.
"It's awesome to see all the pieces finally start to come together, especially with some of the younger players continuing to help contribute," said head coach Chase Brewster. "Anytime you have freshmen like Remi (Rountree) and Brayden (Clark) get two of the three wins on the mound in a weekend series, it's exciting for not only now, but for the future also. Landon (West) was another freshman who contributed huge for us in the lineup game three. It's been awesome to watch them grow up on the fly."
Brewster also highlighted the impact of Ahmar Donatto on both sides of the ball.
"There aren't enough ways to talk about how good Ahmar Donatto was defensively for us this weekend," Brewster said. "His home run was huge for us to swing the momentum."
As a team, the Eagles totaled 38 runs across the three-game sweep, showcasing depth and consistency throughout the lineup.
Texas A&M–Texarkana returns home this week to host the Steers of Texas College. First pitch for Tuesday's doubleheader is set for 12 p.m., with the series concluding Wednesday at 2 p.m.
