Baseball Opens Season as RRAC Preseason No. 3
TEXARKANA, Texas – The Texas A&M University–Texarkana baseball team was picked to finish third in the Red River Athletic Conference Preseason Coaches Poll, released earlier today. The Eagles trail defending conference and NAIA National Champion LSU Shreveport, which is coming off a historic 59–0 season, as well as Texas A&M–Victoria, which enters the year ranked No. 20 in the NAIA after a nationally ranked campaign in 2025. With a strong foundation in place, TAMUT enters the season eager to prove it can contend for the top spot in the conference while continuing to gain national recognition.
"It is always awesome to be recognized by your peers as a top-three team in any league when they do the preseason voting," said head coach Chase Brewster. "The Red River is one of the toughest leagues in all of college baseball, so just to be mentioned alongside programs that expect to win every year shows we're moving in the right direction. Last year we finished two spots higher in the final standings than where we were listed in the preseason poll, and hopefully we can keep that trend going this year."
The Eagles are coming off a 34–18 season, including a 20–10 mark in RRAC play, setting a new program record for most wins in a single season. Brewster returns for his first full season as head coach, along with key contributors such as reigning RRAC Freshman of the Year Austin Kerns, providing continuity and leadership throughout the roster.
With a roster featuring numerous returning impact players alongside a talented group of new faces, TAMUT enters the season poised to build on last year's momentum. The Eagles are focused on competing at the top of the RRAC, elevating their national presence, and continuing to raise the standard of excellence for the program in 2026.
