Bio

James (Jimmy) E. Cano, LAT, serves as an Athletic Trainer at Texas A&M University–Texarkana, bringing more than two decades of experience in athletic training, coaching, education, and sports medicine. Originally from San Antonio, Cano is a Texas Licensed Athletic Trainer and CPR certified professional dedicated to the health, safety, and performance of student-athletes.

A proud U.S. Army veteran, Cano served on Active Duty as a Combat Medical Specialist from 1992-96, while also serving in the National Guard and Reserves. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training from University of New Mexico in 1999.

Cano began his professional athletic training career as an intern with the San Antonio Missions, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers, from 1997-99. He has since spent more than 20 years working at the high school level as a Licensed Athletic Trainer while also contributing as a coach in football, baseball, and boys’ soccer. His coaching experience includes working with inside linebackers and offensive linemen in football.

In addition to his high school experience, Cano has worked in collegiate athletics as an Assistant Athletic Trainer at Sul Ross State University and Abilene Christian University. He also gained experience in junior hockey, working with the Corpus Christi IceRays and the New Mexico Ice Wolves of the North American Hockey League.

Beyond athletics, Cano is teacher certified in Physical Education, Health, and Health Science Technology. He is also a proud father of two daughters, Julianna Joleen, a graduate of The University of Texas at San Antonio, and Jamie Lynn, a high school sophomore in San Antonio.
